I Thought I Told You!

Expecting people to do what they say is fundamental to building trust and maintaining effective relationships in any business environment. When commitments are honored consistently, it creates a culture of reliability and accountability. Clear communication and setting realistic expectations from the outset are critical to ensure everyone understands their responsibilities. Moreover, fostering an environment where follow-through is recognized and reinforced encourages individuals and teams to uphold their promises. In a professional context, this adherence not only boosts morale but also drives productivity and empowers value across the organization. Without this expectation, uncertainty and inefficiency can undermine progress and damage credibility.

Unfortunately, in today’s culture, we have lost the sense of credibility and authenticity. It has become so dire, that people are actually surprised when someone actually does what they said they would do. People have become conditioned and desensitized to lies and hypocrisy. Our society has perfected the art of deceit and corruption. This normalization of inauthenticity has trained us to behave one way and speak a different way. This is absolutely unacceptable.

I propose that we change the narrative. Why not be intentional about saying what we want to say and ensuring that we follow-up with the reciprocal action? How about ensuring that we have the capability before we make the declaration? Wouldn’t it be lovely if we could live a life where we don’t have to try to remember what we say, because we actually live out the truth every time?

This is what God expects from us. He created us in HIs image and likeness. Therefore He expects us to stand at the back of our word to perform it, just like He does. When we cultivate an environment of authenticity and truth, it will raise people’s expectations. When we do what we say, people will not be surprised at truth. Instead they will be surprised at deceit. Our society is in desperate need of a morale booster. Be the morale booster that changes the narrative for the next generation. Live a life of peace and joy. Live a life of character and integrity. Live out Truth, so that when people react in amazement, you can say, “I thought I told you ”.
